Acupuncture

Dr. LaPlante provides multiple forms of acupuncture. Which form depends on the patient's needs and comfort.

Dry needle acupuncture - very thin acupuncture needles are placed through the skin to stimulate acupuncture points.

Aqua Acupuncture - Saline or Vitamin B12 is injected into the acupuncture point.

Electro Acupuncture - After acupuncture needles are placed a mild electrical current (similar to a TENS unit) is used to stimulate the acupuncture point.

Moxibustion - Dried mugwort leaves are used to form sticks similar to incense, then burned and used to heat acupuncture points or acupuncture needles.

Laser Acupuncture - acupuncture points are stimulated using a laser with a special probe.

Veterinary Spinal Manipulation / Chiropractic

Dr. LaPlante has been treating pets with  Veterinary Spinal Manipulation for 14 years. She has a special interest in rehabilitation and sports medicine.  Chiropractic care focuses on the joints of the spine and limbs. During a chiropractic exam the doctor carefully palpates the joints of the body to find areas of restricted movement. When an area of restriction is found it is 'adjusted' gently by hand. In addition to adjustments, mobilization of joints can be used to improve range of motion and flexibility.

Laser Therapy

Dr. LaPlante uses Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) to alleviate pain, swelling, muscle spasm, improve healing and stimulate acupoints. LLLT works on the body through photobiomodulation. The laser emits energy which is absorbed by cells in the body and used for healing and metabolic activity. LLLT also causes endorphin release, decreased pain and improved lymph drainage. Most animals enjoy the slight warming effect of the laser. LLLT is very safe and has few contraindications.
